Rideau Carleton Casino Hosts Meet and Greet with Canadian Olympic Gold Medalist Carolyn Waldo

Go for gold with Olympic Synchronized Swimmer Gold Medalist and the Royal Canadian Mint’s Million Dollar Gold Coin

Ottawa, ON (June 17th, 2019). Rideau Carleton Casino (RCC) will host two-time Olympic gold medal synchronized swimmer Carolyn Waldo Saturday, June 29^th for a meet and greet. Attendees will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with golden girl Carolyn Waldo, and her gold medals, next to the Royal Canadian Mint’s Million Dollar Gold Coin. Fans will be able to “go for gold”, meeting Carolyn Waldo on the main floor from 4pm to 7pm next to the awe-inspiring Gold Coin.

After nearly drowning as a child, Carolyn overcame the fear of water by taking up synchronized swimming at the age of 11. Training six to eight-hours a day, she went on to become the first Canadian female to win double Gold medals at the 1988 Seoul, Korea Olympics. Now, she is a six-time world-champion, two-time Canadian female athlete of the year, and an Officer of the Order of Canada.  

Carolyn now lives in Ottawa, teaches fitness, and enjoys motivating others to live a healthy and active lifestyle. She was previously a sports broadcaster for CTV Ottawa, where she fulfilled a successful career for 25 years.

Rideau Carleton Casino will also be displaying the world’s first Million Dollar Coin, also known as “The Big Maple Leaf.” Crafted by the Royal Canadian Mint, the 100 kg 99.999% pure gold coin with a diameter of 1.7 feet will be on display for public viewing from 10 am to 7 pm every Saturday in June.

A Golden Canada Day Weekend

Friday, June 28^th, Rideau Carleton Casino will be kicking off the Canada Day long weekend with a live outdoor concert from Fresh Horses, the ultimate Garth Brooks tribute band, starting at 8 pm. Fans of country music and Garth Brooks will be blown away by the energy and enthusiasm of band leader Les Smith, who is known for his showmanship and professional attitude.

Saturday, June 29^th, Rideau Carleton Casino will be celebrating the long weekend with a live concert starting at 9 pm, and a spectacular fireworks display beginning at dusk.

Sunday, June 30^th, Rideau Carleton Casino will be celebrating the Canada Day Weekend with the Oh Canada Car Giveaway. The Casino will be giving away a 2019 Toyota Rav4, a 2019 Toyota CH-R, and over $5000 in gas cards and Free Play, with a winner drawn every hour between 3 pm and 10 pm.
