Rideau Carleton Casino to Display the Royal Canadian Mint’s Million Dollar Gold Coin

Guinness Book of World Records' "First Million Dollar Gold Coin" Set to Captivate Crowds every Saturday in June.

Ottawa, ON (May 30th, 2019). Rideau Carleton Casino (RCC) will be displaying the world’s first Million Dollar Coin, also dubbed “The Big Maple Leaf.” Crafted by the Royal Canadian Mint, the 100 kg 99.999% pure gold coin with a diameter of 1.7 feet will be on display for public viewing from 10 am to 7 pm every Saturday in June.

Members of the Rock Star Rewards Program will be able to enter draws for a chance to win one of              two 1 oz. pure gold bars worth over $1700 given away every Saturday in June. New members who sign up for the Rock Star Rewards Program will be entered in a separate draw at the end of the month for a chance at an additional gold bar guaranteed to be won by a new member.

The coin’s reverse features an elegant stylized maple leaf design by Royal Canadian Mint artist and engraver Stan Witten, and the obverse features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the II by the Canadian artist Susanna Blunt. The coin has a face value of one million dollars; the market value of the coin being several times higher at over five million dollars.

Minted in 2007, the Big Maple Leaf has the distinction of being the world’s first gold coin with a one-million-dollar denomination. At the time of the coin’s creation in 2007, it was awarded the title of “The World’s Largest Gold Coin” by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Royal Canadian Mint has produced six coins to date.
